The weight of a magnesium compound does not equal the amount of elemental magnesium it provides. A clear label should identify the form and the magnesium amount on a defined tablet or serving basis.
What is elemental magnesium?
Elemental magnesium means the magnesium itself, excluding the other parts of its compound. Magnesium glycinate is a form in which magnesium is associated with glycine. The NIH explains that US Supplement Facts panels declare elemental magnesium rather than the weight of the whole compound. That US convention does not, by itself, resolve ambiguous wording on a different market’s label. NIH Office of Dietary Supplements: Magnesium.
Reading the Advanced Nutrition label
The label wording for Magnesium Glycinate B6 is: “Chelated magnesium 1,785 mg, equivalent to 250 mg magnesium glycinate,” with Vitamin B6 25 mg per coated tablet.
This wording does not explicitly identify an elemental magnesium amount. We therefore do not describe the 250 mg as elemental magnesium. A manufacturer specification explicitly stating elemental magnesium per tablet is needed to make that distinction confidently.
Can I calculate elemental magnesium from the front label?
Do not use a guessed conversion percentage. The precise ingredient specification and composition matter. If a label gives more than one magnesium number without explaining their relationship, ask the supplier which is compound weight and which, if either, is elemental content.
How should I compare packs?
First compare the same declared basis: per tablet or per serving. Then check tablet count, directions and other nutrients. This product also contains Vitamin B6, so review other supplements you use rather than considering magnesium in isolation.
The confirmed directions are one coated tablet daily, or as directed by your physician. At one tablet daily, 30, 60 and 90 tablets provide 30, 60 and 90 days respectively.
Does the ingredient name guarantee a sleep result?
No. An ingredient form or milligram amount alone cannot promise an individual outcome. Product choice should account for your needs, health conditions and medicines; ask a healthcare professional when unsure.
